Thoracic Surgery

Outline

The Department of Thoracic Surgery specializes in the surgical management of a wide range of diseases of the respiratory system, including neoplastic diseases (e.g., lung cancer, tracheobronchial tumors, mediastinal tumors, chest wall tumors, and malignant pleural mesothelioma), cystic disease (e.g., pneumothorax, pulmonary cysts, giant bullae, and emphysema), traumatic injuries (e.g., chest trauma, pulmonary contusion, and rib fractures), infectious diseases (e.g., empyema, pulmonary sequestration, and bronchiectasis), and chest wall deformities (e.g., pectus excavatum and pectus carinatum). Our department was among the first in the Hokuriku region to introduce minimally invasive thoracoscopic surgery for lung cancer, and we are committing to advaned care through the application of cutting-edge surgical techniques.
Our research focuses on lung cancer and lung injury, as well as the development of surgical techniques and medical devices. We also lead the graduate program in advanced thoracic surgery.
In education, we are dedicated to training competent and compassionate physicians through our undergraduate courses. As an certified institution of the Japanese Association for Chest Surgery, we provide specialist training in thoracic surgery and foster a strong research mindset through postgraduate education and both basic and clinical research.
